The walk of shame. I'm all too familiar with it. If you run a farm you probably walk that walk too. You are late to And that's really what it comes down to, time. Some people, the non-ranching variety, will point an accusing finger and I would argue that the root of this kind of irresponsibility is in fact, responsiblity. You are responsible for so much I'm not sure which is worse, being late, or not showing up at all. Sometimes the farm won't allow you to simply be late, The cow appeared to be in labor. Not hard labor. Just thinking about it. The problem was she was "just thinking about it" My cow who was thinking about labor decided that she really just had gas, so after a good fart, she was bellying up to the This baby was a Coyote Happy Meal. So instead of going to church, we were kidnapping a calf and slow-rolling the calf and her There we would be able to monitor Each day the tendon loosened and by Wednesday we were able to turn the baby and her mother out with the other cows which She loped away taking with her any guilt I had about skipping church that Sunday. I doubt God minded anyway. In When I let that calf out to run, I let go of some that guilt too, because when you live on a farm, and farm drama gets in Comments:

We used to get onto my dad for not coming to church with us and he would tell us he was never closer to God than when he was tending animals or on his tractor. I think God will understand.

God hears you praying, laughing, crying and cussing we in the pew or knee deep in mud, hay and sh1t. That's really all that matters 💗

Thank you. I needed to hear this after a week of below zero temps and high winds caring for livestock babies (calves and goats), grandkids while their mama did chores of her own, and running my father to his Dr appointments. I missed 2 meetings but everyone is ok and doing well and now my quilt is gone too. Thanks.

Perhaps I am an oddball. I own a small business and we have stock. Sometimes we are late or absent, like the day after putting my beloved horse down, when we took the morning off for burial. But there is no shame in my game. I'd never feel like I need to justify this. I will explain, but if someone does not understand, I'm not making their problem into my problem. So I am continually amazed that people feel a need to blog about these aspects of farm life, as though they need justification. They don't. And frankly I'm gonna say there's no shame in not reading or sharing these things anymore. Tell me about the joys of farming, the real challenges. You don't need to justify your life to anyone. So STAHP.

Sometimes it isn't about the $ at all, it's about caring and compassion, about doing your duty to this animal( respect). All of our animals are also our family. And yes, it hurts when you take it in the pocket book.

The problem is that when you don't own the business being late or absent IS one of the challenges to ranching. Most ranching families also have at least one town job to help with finances, so trying to juggle multiple responsibilities is a pretty common problem.
